My Day

  • 10 lessons
  • Available

This chapter is about a normal day. You learn to say what you do from morning to night, ask and tell the time, use the days of the week, start a sentence with a time word, say how often you do something, put small words such as not and also in the right place, join two sentences and hear which word in a sentence gets the stress.

The eight lessons explain one point each in English, with Swedish example sentences and common mistakes. Then come a short text about one person's day, a dialogue between two classmates and the full chapter vocabulary.

Every lesson in this chapter is a written page. Read them in order, or open any lesson from the list.

Lessons

  1. What I Do Every Day

Describe a normal day with everyday verbs in the present. See the three common ways Swedish makes the present, the short form gör, and words for meals, work and school.

  2. What Time Is It

Ask and tell the time in Swedish with whole hours, över, i, kvart and halv, where halv points to the next hour, and say when something starts and ends.

  3. Days and Parts of the Day

The days of the week, the difference between på måndag and på måndagar, the words i dag, i morgon and i kväll, the parts of the day and varje for every.

  4. Starting with a Time Word

Start a Swedish statement with a time word such as i dag or på morgonen, put the verb second and the subject after it, use först and sedan, and place inte after the subject.

  5. How Often

Say how often you do something with alltid, ofta, ibland and aldrig, see where these words go in a statement, ask with hur ofta and say early or late with tidigt and sent.

  6. Where Inte, Ofta and Också Go

See where inte, alltid, ofta, ibland, aldrig and också go in statements, after a time word and in questions, and agree with Jag också or Inte jag heller.

  7. And, But, Or, Because and So

Join two sentences with och, men, eller, för and så, keep the subject before the verb in the second sentence, and see where the comma usually goes.

  8. Stress and Melody in a Sentence

Find the word that gets the stress in a Swedish sentence, see why small words are said lightly, and learn to recognize spoken forms such as ja for jag and sen for sedan.
