You can book a time on the phone, understand times with 24 hours and give your name, address and phone number.

Booking a time

SwedishEnglish
Jag skulle vilja boka en tid.I would like to book an appointment.
Passar det på tisdag?Does Tuesday suit you?
Ja, det passar bra.Yes, that suits me fine.
Nej, tyvärr. Passar det på onsdag? No, unfortunately. Does Wednesday suit you?
Hur dags?At what time?
Det finns en ledig tid klockan 8.15.There is a free appointment at 8.15.
Hur stavas ditt namn? How is your name spelled?
Vad är din adress? What is your address?

Boka en tid means to book an appointment, for example with a doctor or a hairdresser. Here tid means an appointment, and en ledig tid is one that is still free. After Jag skulle vilja, the next verb is in the dictionary form, with no att. Passar det? asks if a time suits someone, and Det passar bra says yes. Hur dags? asks at what time.

Times with 24 hours

WrittenSaidEnglish
8.15åtta och femtona quarter past eight in the morning
14.30fjorton och trettiohalf past two in the afternoon
17.45sjutton och fyrtiofema quarter to six in the evening

Bookings, timetables and opening times in Sweden often use 24 hours. 14.30 is said fjorton och trettio or fjorton trettio, and in everyday talk many people say halv tre. In this course you write these times in digits, with a period between the hour and the minutes.

You give a phone number one digit at a time or in pairs, as in noll sju noll for 070. To spell your name, use the letter names you know, as in Hur stavas det? and te, a, ärr, i, ku. An address is a street and a number, as in Storgatan 12.
