This chapter is about the past. You learn to say when something happened with i går, i lördags and förra veckan, make the past form of every verb you know, and say what you could, wanted to and were going to do.
Eight short lessons take one step each, from var and hade to questions about the past and a then and now profile. A reading text about a Sunday at a lake, a dialogue after a weekend and the full chapter vocabulary follow.
Every lesson in this chapter is a written page. Read them in order, or open any lesson from the list.
Lessons
Yesterday and Last Week
Say when something happened with i går, i förrgår, i morse, i lördags, förra veckan and för två dagar sedan, and use var and hade, the first two past forms.
What We Did on Saturday
Make the past form of verbs that end in -ar in the present by adding de to the dictionary form, as in jobbade, städade and vilade, and use it with a time word that has passed.
Bought, Called and Read
Make the past form of many verbs that end in -er in the present, and choose -de or -te from the sound before it, as in ringde, köpte, glömde and besökte.
Four Kinds of Verbs
Learn every verb as dictionary, present and past form, sort verbs into four kinds by their past form, and see why går and ser do not work like bor.
Went, Came and Saw
Use the past forms of common irregular verbs such as gick, kom, såg, tog, åt and gjorde, and choose gick or åkte for a trip that has passed.
Could, Wanted and Was Going To
Say what you could, wanted to and were going to do with kunde, ville and skulle, and what was not allowed with fick inte, with a dictionary form after them.
What Did You Do
Ask and answer questions about the past, such as Vad gjorde du i helgen? and Varför kom du inte?, and put inte and aldrig in a past sentence.
Then and Now
Compare then and now with förut, då and nu, choose the present or the past from the time word, and read a short profile that moves from before to now.
